Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic Medicine has evolved in such a beautiful and synergistic way in that it blends modern scientific knowledge with traditional and natural forms of medicine. As a result, Naturopathic Medicine is an art as well a science, honoring that body’s innate wisdom and natural ability of the body to heal.  At its core, naturopathy recognizes the interconnectedness of body, mind, and spirit and seeks to address the root causes of disease.

The bases of Naturopathic Medicine

Modalities and Synergy

Naturopathic medicine encompasses a diverse range of modalities that work synergistically to support the body’s natural healing processes and promote holistic well-being. Each modality offers unique therapeutic benefits and addresses different aspects of health and wellness.

Basic Naturopathic Modalities

Nutraceutical Medicine: a diverse group of products that bridge the gap between food and medicine, supplying concentrated sources of bioactive compounds to support wellbeing. From vitamins and minerals to herbal extracts, nutraceuticals offer a natural approach to supporting health.

Mind-Body Medicine

Mind-body medicine recognizes the interconnectedness of menta, emotional, and physical health and emphasizes the role of psychological factors in health and disease. There are many techniques that are used to support the mind-body including counselling, mindfulness, meditation, and relaxation techniques to promote stress reduction, emotional balance and resilience.

Physical Medicine

Naturopathic physical medicine encompasses a variety of hands-on techniques aimed at promoting healing, relieving pain and restoring balance to the body. Rooted in the principles of naturopathic medicine, naturopathic physical therapy approaches seek to support the body’s innate healing mechanisms and optimize physical health.

Detoxification and Cleansing

Detoxification therapies support the body’s natural detoxification pathways, helping to eliminate toxins and metabolic waste. There are many means to aid in the detoxification process including homeopathy, homotoxicology, dietary changes, nutraceuticals, and lymphatic support.

Specialized Treatment Areas

Energy medicine is an approach to healing that involves working with the body’s energy systems to promote healing and balance. Our doctors recognize the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit in achieving your optimal health.

At Lonsdale Naturopathic Clinic our doctors specialize in the following techniques:

Total Body Modification

Total Body Modification, started in 1978, is a holistic system that focuses on identifying and addressing underlying imbalances with the body to promote optimal health and well-being. TBM incorporates principles from various healing modalities, including chiropractic, osteopathy, acupuncture, and nutrition, to create a comprehensive approach to health and restoration. This technique tests specific systems and organs followed by making corrections on the body that are connected to certain health diseases/disorders and structural imbalances.

At its core, TBM recognizes that the body functions as a complex and interconnected system, with each part influencing the whole. By addressing imbalances at the structural, biochemical and energetic levels, TBM aims to restore harmony and vitality to the body, mind, and spirit.

The corrections completed in a TBM session are supporting the body’s bioelectrical computer system thus correcting the autonomic nervous system. When there is a physiological disturbance in the body, it interrupts the computing of the autonomic nervous system consequently creating certain signs and symptoms. TBM helps to correct the malfunctions in the body to further help support the bioelectrical autonomic nervous system. These corrections utilize reflex and trigger points combined with an indicator muscle to help realign the function of the body’s computer operating system restoring optimal functioning of the body.

NeuroEmotional Technique

NeuroEmotional technique is a mind-body approach that integrates principles from neuroscience, chiropractic care, and traditional Chinese Medicine. It focuses on identifying and releasing unresolved emotional patterns stored in the body’s neurophysiology. Through the treatment, the emotional charge dissipates, the patient’s nervous system is believed to reorganize itself, allowing for greater emotional balance and overall well-being.

BioEnergetic Intolerance Elimination
(Allergy Desensitization)

BioEnergetic Intolerance Elimination is a holistic wellness technique that aims to identify and address imbalances within the body’s energy systems. It draws on the principles of traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture and the bioenergetics of the human system.

BIE uses applied kinesiology to identify specific substances or stressors that may be triggering imbalances in the body’s energy pathways, including food sensitivities, environmental toxins or emotional stressors. Once identified, the practitioner uses a gentle, non-invasive technique to help the body recognize and eliminate its negative response to the identified substances or stressors.

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) is a form of hormone therapy that utilizes hormones that are identical to those naturally produced by the body. These hormones are derived from natural sources and are compounded to match the molecular structure of hormones such as estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone.

BHRT is often used to address hormonal imbalances that occur due to perimenopause, menopause, or other health conditions. Unlike traditional hormone replacement therapy (HRT), which typically uses synthetic hormones, bioidentical hormones are believed to be more compatible with the body’s natural physiology.

  • Increase energy and vitality
  • Protect the cardiovascular system improving lipid profile, reduced risk of atherosclerosis and improve overall heart health.

Yes, Naturopathic Doctors in British Columbia are regulated. To practice in BC, Naturopathic Physicians must graduate from an accredited Naturopathic Medical School and successfully complete standardized board exams.

Yes, in British Columbia, many Naturopathic Physicians are educated and licensed to prescribe a wide range of pharmaceutical medications. However, Naturopathic Doctors can only prescribe medications that fall within their scope of practice. Because of this, it’s always important to discuss any concerns or questions about prescriptions directly with your Naturopathic Doctor.

Prescription refills can be requested during your appointment with your Naturopathic Doctor. If a refill request is made outside of an appointment, a $30 charge may apply.

For refills requested outside of an appointment, the fastest way to facilitate this is to contact your pharmacy and have them fax a medication refill request to us at 604-960-9648. Alternatively, you can reach out to our front desk via phone or email to request a refill.

Please note that prescription refills are processed only when the prescribing Naturopathic Doctor is available at the clinic. During holiday periods and weekends, we recommend planning ahead to ensure you don’t run out of medication.

If you need a refill of your supplements, you can either visit the clinic in person during office hours or contact our front desk to request a refill. It’s preferable to reach us via email to ensure we have the correct supplement details and quantities, as this information can sometimes be difficult to confirm over the phone.

You can choose to pick up your supplements directly from the clinic, or if it is more convenient, we can mail them to your address. We use Canada Post for shipping, and the patient is responsible for the full shipping cost. Please contact our front desk for more details on our supplement delivery service.

In British Columbia, Naturopathic Doctors can refer patients to LifeLabs for conventional tests, such as blood tests, urine panels, saliva testing, and digestive stool analyses, among others. Naturopathic Doctors also have access to a broader range of laboratory tests than Medical Doctors, offering more comprehensive options for patient care.

You can discuss any laboratory test requests directly with your Naturopathic Doctor. They will guide you through the process, recommend appropriate tests based on your health needs, and ensure you understand all necessary steps.

While Naturopathic Doctors can order a wide range of laboratory tests, we are not currently licensed in BC to refer patients to medical specialists or order imaging (such as ultrasounds, x-rays, etc.).
