Growing up in Winnipeg, Manitoba, I dreamed about becoming a medical doctor. There were many things that always attracted me to medicine. First, I found comfort in the fact that I would be able to help and guide people to reach their optimal health. I was also attracted to medicine because, all my life, learning has been an important part of who I am. I knew that working in the medical field, I would be a life-long student constantly learning and growing as both a doctor and an individual. I truly feel that learning is the center of life and something that can bring us all together. As long as we are open to learn new things, then we are open to meet new people and put ourselves in new situations.
However, while attending university, I experienced a life-altering event, which changed the course of my studies and my beliefs around medicine. I was in a motor vehicle accident that resulted in soft tissue damage throughout my body. After several failed medical treatment attempts, I turned to alternative treatment options. It was during this time that I found my passion- Naturopathic Medicine. Since then, Naturopathic Medicine has become a way of life for me. Over time, I began slowly making changes in my life. I started with making changes to my diet, investigating what foods my body likes and doesn't like as well as finding my balanced diet. I discovered that I actually love exercise and now can’t imagine my life without it. The adventures and excitement that come with being active are priceless for me.
Lastly, I began working on myself personally growing as an individual through introspection. I found that the more I work on myself, whether setting new goals, picking up new hobbies, or working through emotions, the lighter I would feel and the better I am for those around me. This is how I like to help my patients. I like to encourage my patients to begin setting small goals, growing slowly over time. I enjoy helping people find their own passions in life and strive towards them.
Throughout my life, I have always had a strong desire for learning. This has continued in my practice as a Naturopathic Doctor. Each year I set goals of learning new techniques that can further help both my patients and myself. The more I learn new skills, the more I can build on the mastery of my previous skills and the more I can support my patients. For me learning brings about excitement and motivation allowing me to nourish my mind and better me as a person.
